I was talking to an old friend the other day, and of course the topic of Lasik came into the conversation. Once we started talking about Lasik I found out that he has already scheduled a surgery and still had plenty of questions about the surgery. Now obviously, I am not a doctor, but I had the surgery myself, so I answered his questions as well as I could, given the circumstances, but he had so many detailed questions that I had to stop him and ask him what his surgeon had told him.

He looked at me sort of guiltily and said, “I forgot to ask him”. Many others I have spoken with who have either undergone the surgery or were thinking about it have also said the same thing, “I forgot to ask”. Your surgeon is there not only to perform the surgery, but also to answer any questions you may have. So make sure you take the opportunuity to ask them, because not only does this help you to know what to expect from the surgery, but it also allows you to do away with any fears you may have about the operation.

I have been telling most of the friends and family who are visiting a laser eye surgery center to bring a notepad with them. Before your appointment write down all of the questions you have about the surgery, including price, healing times, and what your pre-surgery schedule should be. Also, be sure to write down anything else that may come to mind. When you see the doctor read off the questions one by one and as he/she answers them write down the answers. This will allow you to review the answer at a later date because I don’t know about you but I get pretty excited or nervous in these situations, and either forget to ask a question or forget what the answer was.

Laser eye surgery is something you should really research in order to answer all of the questions you may have. Doing so will allow you to get the best for your eyes, as well as allow you to relax knowing you are in competent hands. After all, this isn’t an appointment to get a haircut it’s something involving your eyes. I don’t know about you, but having a surgery on my eyes really made me nervous, and therefore I really wanted to find out everything that I possibly could about the procedure.

So in other words, make sure you are prepared for your consultation so you can get all of the answers you need in order to make sure you are making the right decision of surgeon, as well as allowing yourself to put your mind at ease. Before you commit, always ask Lasik questions.
